Running to the Sea

Speaking of Röyksopp and Susanne Sundfør, at the same Lydverket show they played an original track, “Running to the Sea”. Quite a moving song.

New Daughter single – Still

I think Daughter’s just become one of my favorite bands. The latest single, released this week, is called Still. Their first album drops within days. I’ve listed to all the EPs – Smother, The Wild Youth, and His Young Heart multiple times.

Robin Guthrie’s Fortune album

Released last week (November 26), Robin Guthrie’s latest solo album, Fortune, showcases 10 new instrumental songs. Whereas many of his songs sounds like they flow from one album to the next, Fortune actually differentiates itself from earlier albums. I’m not exactly sure why, but several songs from this great album sounds crisper and livelier in mood, though some songs, like “Tigermilk,” fall into the earlier category. Here is an iTunes link to check out the album.

Tracey Thorn in the clouds

I first hear Tracey Thorn’s voice in early 1984, when I picked up Everything but the Girl’s debut record, Eden, which I still have. I bought pretty much everything I could find by Thorn and EbtG, until the late ’90s when they turned to dance music I failed to follow. Then just a few days ago I heard a song of hers on Pandora that I did not recognize. I turned to Wikipedia, or course, and discovered she had recorded a new record in 2007, and in May 2010 is coming out with another. Supposedly the link below will embed a Soundcloud audio player to hear the song, which is just superb. Check out her music at www.traceythorn.com. Her new single is sparse, her voice nonpareil, and the music just as good as it gets.
